Supporting your gut when life is full.
Small steps for the woman who wants to care for herself without adding another complicated routine.
Some days, looking after yourself feels like another item on an already crowded list.
You’re working, caring for others, planning meals, answering messages, and wondering what happened to the cup of tea you made two hours ago.
Then you open your phone, hoping to find some help for the bloating you’ve been struggling with—and discover twelve different things you’re apparently supposed to do for your gut.
Before long, even getting started feels overwhelming.
At Rewired Wellness, I encourage a gentler starting point: choose one practical habit that fits the life you’re actually living.
Start with something you can add
Making changes doesn’t have to begin with a long list of foods you can no longer eat.
You might add berries to your breakfast, include a vegetable with lunch, or try a small serving of lentils in your favourite soup.
Plant foods provide different types of fibre and nutrients. Increase fibre gradually, giving your digestive system time to adjust. Suddenly going from very little fibre to enormous salads and bowls of beans can bring gas and discomfort.
Your gut doesn’t need a surprise party.
Choose foods and portions that suit your tolerance. More isn’t always better all at once.
Give one meal a little more attention
Do you sometimes finish lunch and barely remember eating it?
Try choosing one meal where you sit down, put your phone aside, and give yourself time to eat. Notice the taste, the texture, and when you feel comfortably satisfied.
This is a chance to pay attention to yourself in the middle of a busy day. You don’t need to turn every meal into a mindfulness retreat.
Make movement easy to begin
Movement can support your overall health, mood, and strength. It doesn’t have to begin with a gym membership or a demanding routine.
A short walk, a little dancing in the kitchen, or a few minutes of manageable movement can be a starting point.
Ask yourself: “What could I realistically make room for today?”
Choose a habit you can return to
Pick one action for the coming week:
Add a plant food you enjoy to one meal.
Sit down for lunch without scrolling.
Take a short walk after a familiar daily activity.
Make it specific: “After lunch, I’ll walk for five minutes” is easier to act on than “I should exercise more.”
If you miss a day, you can return to it at the next opportunity. There is no need to wait until Monday.
