What does a gut health coach actually do?

You’ve read the tips. You’ve saved the recipes. You may even have a cupboard full of things you were certain would be the start of a healthier you.
But when it comes to deciding what to do on an ordinary Tuesday—when you’re tired, busy, and dinner still needs to happen—it can feel surprisingly complicated.
Should you change what you eat? Pay more attention to sleep? Start with the habit you keep putting off?
And how do you make any of it stick?
This is where health coaching can help.
At Rewired Wellness, I help women build habits that support their gut health, energy, and a foundation for healthy aging. We begin with your everyday life: what matters to you, what feels difficult, and what you’re ready to try.
First, we get curious
Before adding another task to your list, we make room to understand what’s already happening.
What do your meals look like on a busy day? Do you usually sit down to eat, or does lunch happen somewhere between answering emails and finding your keys? What gets in the way of the changes you want to make?
These conversations aren’t a test. You don’t need to arrive with a perfect food diary or explain why you haven’t followed every piece of advice you’ve ever received.
Your real life is our starting point.
Then, we choose something manageable
Imagine you want to take better care of yourself, but your workdays are unpredictable and you regularly reach mid-afternoon without having had a proper lunch.
We might start by finding two simple lunch options you enjoy and can realistically prepare. Then we would work out what would make them easier to have available.
That might mean making an extra portion at dinner or keeping a few useful ingredients at work.
It sounds small. That’s the point.
A useful first step is something you can practise in the life you actually have.
We check in and adjust
Knowing what you want to do and making it happen are two different things.
An individual check-in gives you space to talk about how the week went. What felt easy? What was awkward? Was the plan too ambitious? Did your schedule change?
If your lunch plan worked twice, we can learn from those two days. If it didn’t happen, we can look at what got in the way.
There are no gold stars for pretending everything went perfectly. And no detention for forgetting your overnight oats.
The goal is to build confidence in making choices and adjusting them as life changes.
There’s education, too
Coaching also makes room for learning.
We can explore digestion basics and discuss everyday habits around food, movement, sleep, and recovery. You have an opportunity to ask questions and consider how the information fits your own routines.
You don’t need to become a nutrition researcher to start taking care of yourself. Education should help you choose a next step, rather than leave you with an even longer list of things to worry about.
Where coaching fits
Health coaching offers education, encouragement, and support with behaviour change. It doesn’t diagnose digestive conditions, prescribe treatment, or replace medical care.
New, persistent, or worsening symptoms deserve assessment by an appropriate healthcare professional. Coaching can sit alongside that care, helping you work on everyday habits within the guidance you’ve been given.
My background as a Registered Practical Nurse informs my approach, alongside my health coaching and nutrition education. At Rewired Wellness, our coaching work centres on practical learning and sustainable habits.
What this looks like in Small Changes, Big Impact
Small Changes, Big Impact is my four-week online program, combining:
A weekly group session for learning and discussion
An individual check-in each week
Simple steps to practise between sessions
You’ll have space to learn, ask questions, and choose manageable actions—with support as you put them into practice.
The program begins October 19, with group sessions on Mondays at 7 p.m. Eastern. The cost is $245 CAD for the four weeks.
If this sounds like the kind of support you’ve been looking for, you can visit the registration page here. You’re also welcome to email cyoung@rewiredwellness.com with questions.
You don’t have to arrive with everything figured out. We can start with one small change.
No extremes. No perfection. Just practical steps toward a healthier, more energized you.
